Our hotel was close to Trinity College, but we saved visiting the Book of Kells for Saturday morning. We arrived there early, well before it opened for the day, but there was still quite a crowd ahead of us in line. Fortunately, it moved quickly and we were purchasing our tickets just 15 minutes after the library opened. And what an incredible library it is!
No photography is allowed in the actual Book of Kells exhibit (not surprising, as it IS supposedly 1200+ years old) but you can take pix in the Library of the college. There are only two pages of The Book of Kells on display at a time, apparently, they are rotated throughout the year. The artistry of the illustrations and calligraphy is breathtaking, it’s amazing to imagine the monks working so tirelessly on this incredible manuscript.
