Kenmare was the next stop on our tour of the south west, and we had a reservation for the Brook Lane Hotel, located at the very beginning of the Ring of Kerry. Once again we programmed our destination into our GPS as we drove from Killarney, it was under 20 miles away, and we expected to arrive at the hotel in under 30 minutes, even while making a few brief stops along the side of the road to look at the scenery. That should have been the case, however, once again our GPS was a bit confused.
Here is a short video clip of us driving along the Ring of Kerry, through the park, on our way to Kenmare. And yes, sheep are at the next right.
The Ring of Kerry, aka N71, took us all the way from Killarney into Kenmare. Unfortunately, the GPS failed to inform us that we needed to turn off of N71 and onto N70 (the continuation of the Ring of Kerry) in order to arrive at our hotel. Once again we were lost even though our GPS insisted that our destination was just ahead on the left.
Here is video of our GPS insisting that we had arrived at Brook Lane…. where? where?
Thanks to google maps and the Global data plan for my iPhone, we quickly realized where we were and how to get to The Brook Lane and just a few short minutes later, we did arrive at the hotel.
The Brook Lane is a lovely boutique hotel located just a short walk from downtown. We went in to register and were warmly greeted by Una, one of the proprietors. She asked where we’d parked and upon learning that we were pretty much directly in back of where our room was located, opened the fire door for us to make transporting our bags into the room a breeze. I must say that the Irish people were all very friendly and helpful which just added to our enjoyment.
