We pulled in to Castlewood House shortly after 1p.m., and as suspected, our room was not quite ready. Brian, our host, informed us that it should be done in about 10-15 minutes and we could wait if we’d like. Instead, we opted to make our way into town, leaving the car at the guesthouse so as not to have to deal with in town parking.
The walk to town took under 10 minutes, and as the rain was coming down pretty hard at this point, we decided to pop into the TI (travel information office) to pick up maps and get information about the village. We asked about McKenna’s of Dingle, and the clerk at the TI circled the location on the map for us. Unfortunately, said map degraded very soon thereafter due to getting pelted with rain. We walked for a few more minutes and finally came upon Dykegate Street, where the store was located. We took some obligatory photos of the signage and then walked across the street to The Dingle Pub, where we had a pint. Though we knew how incredibly fortunate we’d been to have such fabulous weather, the rain in Dingle was slightly discouraging, so this refreshment put us in better spirits. This was evident in the second round of photos we took outside of McKenna’s!
We walked around the town a bit more and realized that we were hungry. Unfortunately, a lot of places stop serving food at 3p.m. and don’t start up again until dinner time, so our options were a bit limited. We went into John Benny’s and had a satisfying lunch before heading back to the guest house to get settled into our room.
