Winterpol…

Last night we attended the concert that almost wasn’t.  Interpol, a band that we’ve seen many times in the last ten years, was in the midst of their fall tour and were leaving Columbus, OH after their show there on November 17 when they got stuck in a huge lake effect snowstorm.  Due to the massive amount of snow that fell (close to ten feet), the highways leading into Buffalo, NY were shut down, and the band was stranded in their bus for more than 50 hours.  They missed three shows due to not being able to move and we weren’t 100% certain that the roads would open in time for them to get to Philly for their date at the Union Transfer.

Fortunately, the roads were reopened on Friday afternoon, and the band rolled into town that evening, in plenty of time for their show on Saturday night.

When they took the stage shortly after 10pm, they made a brief comment about how great it was to be out of the snow, and the bus and finally be back up on stage performing.  Seeing them at such a small room was quite a treat, normally they play much larger venues.  As a result, the show was obviously oversold, we’ve never seen the room so packed, the floor was jammed with people.  It was an all ages event, and we’d brought Ashley with us, but since she’s not yet 21, there were areas she was not allowed.  After the support act finished, and the mad rush of people made their way to the floor, we quickly realized that none of us would be able to see anything from where we were, so we moved up onto the 21+ area – getting her up there was no problem at all.  This was an area elevated about 2 feet above the floor which allowed us a great view of the stage.  It was a great show, they are always such fun to see.

Here is a short video clip of them performing PDA.

Here are a few photos from the show.
