Dawn and Kevin

Our last day in Dublin

After visiting the Hard Rock, we continued walking through Temple Bar and retraced some of the route we took on the hop on hop off bus tour. We revisited Christ Church, St. Patrick’s, Kevin Street, and then walked to Dublin Castle before heading back towards Grafton Street.  As we walked down Grafton, we popped into shops and cafes that we’d missed, again seeing some great U2 memorabilia (that we could not photograph since people were dining there at the time)  We walked toward St. Anne Street and knew that we had to visit Kehoe’s once more, this would be our third visit there.

Once again, the weather was superb and we grabbed a barrel table out on the sidewalk.  As we enjoyed our pints of Guinness, a young guy sitting at the next barrel started a conversation with us.  He was from Washington state and assumed that we were too, as I was wearing my Easy Street Records t-shirt, a famous record shop in Seattle.  We explained that no, we were from the east coast, but were in Ireland as we’d just seen Pearl Jam (a Seattle band) in Leeds, UK.  This led to a nearly two hour discussion of music, concerts, college educations and job searches. His journey through Ireland had just started, sadly, ours was at its end, but we had a great conversation, also known as craic in Ireland. We bid farewells, wishing that one day our paths would cross again.  After he was on his way, we had our last pint at Kehoe’s and accepted that it was really over.  This was the best trip we’ve ever been on, it had been a lifelong dream to see the Emerald Isle and we were not disappointed.  We will go back.
