Dawn and Kevin

They want our souls….

One thing that I am absolutely thrilled about is the fact that we have passed down our love of music, and live shows, to our kids.  Ashley seems to have really latched on to many of the bands we like, and as a result, attends many shows with us.

We all love the Texas band, Spoon, and when we learned that they were playing at Summerstage in NYC’s Central Park, we were some of the first to buy tickets.

We headed in to the city in late afternoon and spent some time downtown shopping for music magazines and records (big surprise!) before jumping on the train and heading up to Central Park.  We went in shortly after doors, grabbed something to eat, and found a spot from where we would watch the show.

The support act was such fun, a punk dance band by the name of !!! (pronounced chk chk chk) They got the crowd going and we were ready for Spoon to hit the stage.

We’ve seen Spoon live a handful of times and were very much looking forward to this show.  Unfortunately, the crowd was horrible – incessant talking throughout the night which really put a damper on the evening.  Spoon’s performance was wonderful as always, but the idiots around us just wouldn’t shut up the entire night, except when the one song that they knew was played.  It was frustrating, we moved around a few times, but people were rude and annoying all over the venue.  I felt badly for Ashley, as this was her first time seeing them and she too was deeply annoyed by the horrible crowd.  That said, when they come around again, we will certainly be there.

Here’s a short clip of Spoon performing ‘Do You’.  In it, you can hear how loudly the crowd was talking throughout the evening. So frustrating.

Here are a few photos we took that night.  Click on a thumbnail to pull up the lighbox.
