There are no words to adequately describe how thrilled I was to learn that after 8 very long years, Damien Rice was finally releasing a new record. My excitement grew exponentially when I learned that he would be playing a promo tour, with three dates in NYC, two of which were to take place at a club called The Box, a venue with a capacity of under 300 people. I knew tickets for those shows would be a challenge, but I had no idea just how difficult it would be to get them.
I struck out in all three pre-sales, Kevin was trying as well, and he also came up empty. I fared no better in the general onsales the following day. I was unable to get a single ticket to any of the three shows he was playing. I wanted to cry.
We are very fortunate to have friends who love music as much as we do, many of whom either work in the industry, or know people who do. One of our friends was able to get a pair to both shows at the Box, and due to a lack of a babysitter, offered one to me for the Saturday night show. One show out of three was better than none and I was extremely grateful.
Another friend was able to get a ticket to the Thursday night show, which he offered to me, but as the tickets were not transferable, there was no way we could make it work. But, he has a friend who works at Atlantic records who somehow worked her magic and was able to get a +1. I didn’t know for sure if I was going until 3p.m. the day of the show when I got the message that I was on the VIP list. I was ecstatic to be able to see both intimate shows at the Box, especially since I hadn’t been able to buy a single ticket.
Damien Rice is brilliant, the shows were magnificent. We stood less than 3 feet from him as he performed a two-hour long set both nights. It was worth the 7+ year wait, and we are very excited to have tickets to see him again in a couple weeks at The Apollo Theatre in NYC. The video clip at the top of the page is one I shot of Damien performing his song, The Box, at The Box! Below are some of the photos I took at the Saturday, Oct. 18th show. BTW – I never watermark my photos, however, when I shared these in a public forum, someone immediately copied a few of them and re-posted them on Instagram as their intellectual property. I was not pleased and decided to watermark them for that reason.
