It all began with a cryptic tweet by one of our favourite Irish singer/songwriters…
What could he possibly mean by stating that something would be going on Monday night? A group of us decided we would certainly find out. If it turned out to be a bust, at least we could all have a pint together at one of our very favourite pubs in the city and go out for dinner.
We arrived at Scratcher before 5 p.m., and set up at the third table – the first two were already filled with a large group of Irish musicians, which was a very good omen. By 7:30, the place was packed, and a few minutes later, in walked Glen, guitar in hand. We knew we were in for a treat.
I neglected to bring my camera, so the only photos I took were with my iPhone. We were treated to two+ hours of great music, most of which was in tribute to Glen’s friend, Jason Molina, who had tragically passed away on St. Patrick’s Day two years ago. This gathering at Scratcher was somewhat of a record release party / gig. Glen’s tribute EP to Jason was being released the next day, and the band was rehearsing the song they were to play on the Letterman show on Tuesday.
It was a fabulous evening with great friends at one of the best authentic Irish pubs in the city.
