We already had tickets to see Damien Rice in Brooklyn that night, but when Spoon announced a special intimate show on the same evening, we made the decision to see them instead.
Fortunately, I was able to easily pick up tix to the show thru an unadvertised American Express presale, the general onsale was a total nightmare, more accurately described as a clusterf&ck. We were going to see Spoon in a room with a capacity of between 300 – 400, and couldn’t be more excited.
We got to Brooklyn shortly before doors were scheduled to open at 8pm, and enjoyed a few pints at the attached bar, The Well. As we were walking around the patio area in back, Britt Daniel, the lead singer of Spoon, walked past us and we said Hi. We wandered around a bit more, then found a spot in the venue from where we’d watch the support act.
A short while later, during Antlers set, Britt came over to where we were and ended up standing next to us for 4 songs. Â When he finally left, we wished him a great show and Kevin fist bumped him.
Seeing them in such an intimate venue was a real treat, and I was thrilled to finally get the title track of their latest album, They Want My Soul.
