After spending close to two hours at the Cliffs, we got back into the car to make the 45 minute drive to Ennis, where we were staying that evening. The drive was uneventful, though we did get stuck behind a tourist who insisted on driving unbelievably slowly and there was no possible way to pass him for many miles. We checked into our hotel, which was located right in the center of town, and walked around, looking at what this village had to offer. Here are a few photos taken while we walked around town.
We popped into Dan O’Connell’s pub and listened to a local musician play while watching a hurling match on tv with the rest of the crowd. Unbeknownst to us, the match was actually taking place just a 10 minute walk from where we were seated, Clare was playing Tipperary, thus the reason the locals were so engrossed in it. It’s a fast paced game that’s something of a cross between baseball, hockey and lacrosse, and it took a few minutes, but we finally figured out how the sport is scored.
When the singer covered Oasis’s Don’t Look Back in Anger, Kevin texted Ashley (as she’s a fan of the band) and I recorded a short clip. The video is boring, but you can hear the sounds of the music and the pub.
We finished our pints and then decided to move on to another place, where we continued to watch the hurling match, which ultimately ended in a tie (and would need to be replayed!) Shortly after it ended, it got very crowded in the pub – people who had attended the match were piling in for a pint or two. We were fortunate enough to find a table before it got so crowded and enjoyed some fish and chips there before heading back to our room.
